Variation in the immune state of Gammarus pulex (Crustacea, Amphipoda) according to temperature: are extreme temperatures a stress?
2017
9 pages; International audience; Temperature is known to impact host-parasite interactions in various ways. Such effects are often regarded as the consequence of the increased metabolism of parasites with increasing temperature. However, the effect of temperature on hosts' immune system could also be a determinant. Here we assessed the influence of temperature on the immunocompetence of the crustacean amphipod Gammarus pulex. Amphipods play a key ecological role in freshwater ecosystems that can be altered by several parasites. We investigated the consequences of three weeks of acclimatization at four temperatures (from 9 °C to 17 °C) on different immunological parameters. Temperature influ…
No klīniskā materiāla izdalīto Streptococcus pneumoniae jutība pret antibakteriālajiem līdzekļiem
2016
Global emergence of the widespread Pseudomonas aeruginosa ST235 clone
2018
Abstract Objectives Despite the non-clonal epidemic population structure of Pseudomonas aeruginosa , several multi-locus sequence types are distributed worldwide and are frequently associated with epidemics where multidrug resistance confounds treatment. ST235 is the most prevalent of these widespread clones. In this study we aimed to understand the origin of ST235 and the molecular basis for its success. Methods The genomes of 79 P. aeruginosa ST235 isolates collected worldwide over a 27-year period were examined. A phylogenetic network was built, using a Bayesian approach to find the Most Recent Common Ancestor, and we identified antibiotic resistance determinants and ST235-specific genes…
Elpceļu infekciju gadījumos izdalīto Staphylococcus aureus jutība pret antibakteriālajiem līdzekļiem
2017
Darba uzdevumi: Veikt laboratori…
Effects of Dextran Sulfate 500 on Cell-Mediated Resistance to Infection with Listeria monocytogenes in Mice.
1974
Injection of dextran sulfate 500 caused loss of antibacterial resistance. Mice became more susceptible to an infection with Listeria monocytogenes and were unable to develop antilisterial immunity after both active and passive immunization with passively administered spleen cells from Listeria -immune donors. Indirect evidence suggests that the phagocytic component of cell-mediated resistance to bacterial infection is the site of attack of dextran sulfate.
Bakteriofāgu terapijas iespējas
2016
Pārmērīga antibakteriālu līdzekļu lietošana veicina epidēmijas mēroga bakteriālās rezistences pieaugumu attīstītajās un attīstības valstīs. Bakteriālās rezistences pieaugums atdzīvina interesi par alternatīvām antibakteriālām terapijām. Viena no tām iesaista bakteriofāgus – vīrusus, kuriem piemīt spējas inficēt un vairoties baktēriju saimniekšūnās veicinot to lizēšanu. Ir plaši dokumentēta fāgu veikta vairāku rezistentu baktēriju izskaušana, tomēr nav skaidrs, caur kādiem mehānismiem tā tiek panākta. Tas apgrūtina regulējošo iestāžu atļauju izsniegšanu, lai ieviestu bakteriofāgu terapiju klīniskajā praksē. Bakalaura darba mērķis bija noskaidrot veselības aprūpes speciālistu (ārstu) viedokli…
Insect immunity: oral exposure to a bacterial pathogen elicits free radical response and protects from a recurring infection
2014
Background: Previous exposure to a pathogen can help organisms cope with recurring infection. This is widely recognised in vertebrates, but increasing occasions are also being reported in invertebrates where this phenomenon is referred to as immune priming. However, the mechanisms that allow acquired pathogen resistance in insects remain largely unknown. Results: We studied the priming of bacterial resi stance in the larvae of the tiger moth, Parasemia plantaginis using two gram-negative bacteria, a pathogenic Serratia marcescens and a non-pathogenic control, Escherichia coli. Asublethaloraldoseof S. marcescens provided the larvae with effective protection against an otherwise lethal septic…
Antibiotics Resistance in Enterococcus Isolates from Poultry Waste
2020
Abstract The aim of the study was to evaluate the drug resistance of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium isolated from different types of poultry waste. The study material consisted of feather samples (duck, turkey, chicken), sludge and centrifuge sediment, originating from three poultry farms. The study was conducted in two stages; isolation and identification of Enterococcus bacteria from the waste and evaluation of their drug resistance using Kirby-Bauer method. Contamination of the poultry waste with Enterococcus isolates included E. faecium species (79 %) and E. faecalis (21 %). The most contaminated were sludge and sediment from the centrifuge as well as chicken feathers, i…
